Gathering Professions
There are 3 gathering professions in Rift. These professions are Butchery, Foraging, and Mining. In order to learn a profession, you must first seek a trainer for that profession. There are 4 skill levels within each profession. These are Novice, Skilled, Expert, and Master. With each skill level, you will earn a new title with each grade. The higher the grade in a profession the more valuable items you will be able to butcher, forage, or mine.
Gathering professions will always be in need as they provide the materials needed for crafting professions. There is potential for a lot of money to be made while leveling your gathering professions with leveling up to level 50.
Butchery
Training in Butchering allows one to collect hides and other useful parts from the creatures of Telara. Butchering pairs exceedingly well with the Outfitting tradeskill, but is also helpful for Armorsmiths and Apothecaries.
Butchery allows you to collect hides and other useful parts from the creatures in Rift. The collection of these items allows you to craft them into various sorts of leather. This leather is then used to help out Outfitting, Armorsmithing, and Apothecary crafting professions.
In order to train in Butchery, you must find a Butchery trainer. These trainers are located throughout the world and eventually ended up in your factions major city at the mastery level.
In order to use Butchery, you must find a dead beast. These dead beasts can be butchered to gain hides and other valuable items. A tool is not required. You can take these hides to a loom, which can be found in the major cities in Rift, and turn the hides into leathers. These leathers can be sold or used to compliment a crafting profession.

Foraging
Foraging involves the collection of diverse plants and wood found throughout Telara. Foraging is exceptionally useful for Apothecaries. It is also helpful for Artificers and Weaponsmiths.
Foraging is a gathering profession that allows for the collection of plants and wood throughout Rift. The collection of plants and wood compliments the Apothocary, Artificing, and Weaponsmithing crafting professions.
You must train Foraging at one of the various Foraging trainers. These trainers are located throughout Rift with the master level trainers located in your factions respective major city.
Once you have trained in Foraging, then you will be allowed to gather plants and wood. These will be shown on your mini-map as diamonds that will let you know if you are near a foraging node. Collect these ingredients and you will be able to craft timber and logs which can be sold or used to compliment a crafting profession.

Mining
Miners are skilled at gathering ore and gems from plentiful lodes found across Telara. Mining is exceptionally useful for Armorsmiths, Artificiers, and Weaponsmiths.
Mining allows you to mine mining lodes in Rift. Mining lets you collect minerals and various gems from lodes. You do not need a mining pick in order to do this. The collection of ores and gems compliments Weaponsmithing and Armorsmithing.
You must first train Mining at one of the various Mining trainers through out Rift. These trainers range from novice to master with master trainers located in your factions respective major city.
Once you have trained Mining, then you will be able to mine from mining lodes. These will be shown on your mini-map as diamonds once you have activated the “Track Ore” skill in your spell book. Collect the ore to create bars and collect gems to be sold or used to compliment a crafting profession.
